Sharon Waldron (also known as Sharon Waldron Blaschke) is a Hobart based oil painter and print maker who depicts the essence of lutruwita \ Tasmanian landscape through exploring the interconnectedness between the earth, plants, sky, sea, animals and people, past and present; interacting with the elements portrayed.
Born in the North of the island and of Tasmanian Aboriginal descent, Sharon connects with the Indigenous Deep Time and also integrates her Celtic heritage into colourfully symbolic imagery that identifies a universal animism.
Sharon also appreciates Japanese Modernist painting and is influenced by the simple symmetry found in the British artist Andy Goldsworthy’s site-specific environmental sculptures. Sharon’s work creates dreamlike or other-worldly moods like the Surreal French painters such as Renee Magritte.
An art educator for over twenty years, Sharon is invigorated by young people’s sense of wonder about the natural world and for art-making practices. She trained in Art Therapy and applies therapy principles and techniques in her teaching and art practice. Sharon studied alternate theatre design at DAMU (Academy of Performing Arts) in Prague and worked as a theatre artist freelance for Terrapin Puppet Theatre and for Knee High Puppeteers, an Adelaide- based company touring Europe, Asia and around Australia. Sharon is also a yoga teacher and a qualified career development practitioner.
